Is $5975 a good price for a 2002 Honda Civic EX with about 100000 miles? I’ve had a mechanic check it, and they say it’s in good condition except that the timing belt and water pump has not been changed. I’ve driven it, and it drives pretty good. What do you think?

Thanks!

Get a formal quote from a Honda dealership to replace the timing belt and water pump, then use it as a negotiating factor. While price is good it reflects the 100k+ miles.

Sounds alright, but I would definitely use the timing belt as leverage to get the price down a couple hundred. Its an expensive maintenance item and really needs to be replaced as it will cost you way more if it fails.

If you’re buying form a dealer, that price is ALMOST worth it. However, I’ve seen 2002 Honda Civics for far less than that, even as low as $2000. I guess it also depends on your geographical location…

At about 100K, the timing belt and water pump need to be changed. This service cost @$1,000.00. If the timing belt breaks, you blow the engine.

ABS = Anti-lock Braking System
Its a system that gives you control of the car if the brakes lock up.

Anti-lock Braking System. It prevents the wheels from locking up in a panic stop. When wheels lock up, you lose all ability to steer the vehicle as well as any directional stability.

If the ABS light is lit on your car (it should go on briefly when you start the engine and then go out) it indicates that there’s a fault in the ABS system.Your car will brake normally but the ABS feature will not work.

I am going to assume you are referring to the ABS light on the dash. ABS stands for Anti-lock Breaking System. If the light is on then there is possibly an issue with a component of the ABS system. When that light comes on the computer shuts off the ABS system and you just have standard brakes.

ABS is Anti-lock Braking System. Not limited to Hondas. Most cars have this these days. It prevents the brakes from locking up during hard braking to avoid skidding.

Does anybody know of a good ‘reliable’ website that lists torque specs for vehicles?I am going to be changing the rear wheel bearing, the whole hub assembly, and i’m looking to find the torque specs of all the different bolts/nuts.(for a 2001 honda odyssey)

Best Answer: will be chosen thank you

The axle nut is what you really have to worry about, MIBearings LLC will help you with torque specs if you call them. They prefer if you purchase the bearing from them though…
The OEM torque specs for the front of your 2001 Honda Odyssey are 181 Ft Lbs or 245 Nt/m
Good Luck!

If you use an air wrench, you shouldn’t have to worry about torque specs. Almost all air wrenches now have a built-in feature that detects the max torque on a nut/bolt and won’t tighten them past max torque.

i need to top my system off, because theres a leak somewhere, but im not gonna bother, as it lasts about 3 months before it all leaks out… but ya what should the PSI be on the low side port… i have a can of 134a with a guage, and dont tell me the guage sucks, cuz it doesnt and stop bitching about gauges on bottles, because there fine…. with the ambient temp at 85 it says it needs to be at 40 – 55, and mine is only at like 32 :O

I won’t tell you it sucks because it is actually part of the danger of those kits. There is not even a straightforward relationship between outside temperature and low side pressure – humidity, engine speed, operating conditions over the last ten minutes (yes, ten minutes), vehicle speed – all those are more important to the low side pressure than the ambient temperature or the level of charge is. Gauges on bottles are not fine, they are useless.

You need high and low side pressure gauges to have any idea what is going on. With those a trained and experienced technician can usually tell what is going on… but not how much refrigerant is in the system. The first source puts it well: "You test and diagnose A/C system using manifold gauges. They provide a pressure reading. That pressure reading is in no way related to the amount (weight) of refrigerant in the system."

well, if you had a gauge for both sides, you could diagnose part of the problem. if the high side was below the range, then the system is low. if it is above the range, the txv/cot is metering slow and the evap is freezing up.

That minivan is extremely different in engine bay to your 1992 accord, what do you need? actually that does not matter, because, the question is how much money do you need? well… you need more money than what is worth your car.

To make this worst, that engine has a torque curve not exactly what you are looking for at your accord, anyway, you can do some simulations with a car performance simulator to find out how you car will perform, (please notice the swap will add more weight)

You can do this simultations at http://www.nxgtrsim.com

Oh, and would a transmission from a early’er model Isuzu Rodeo, one with a transmission dip stick, Inner change into this newer Rodeo model ?

you don’t want to change the fluid if your having problems
maybe you have to take it to a shop for them to check it
The 2001 Pontiac Sunfire does not have a dipstick
the car has to be taken to the shop to be checked because they have a special tool to check it

maybe that is the case here
